================================================================== VITAL STATISTICS OF A TRANSIT SEARCH PROGRAMME ================================================================== Programme: Monitor - ONC URL: http://www.ast.cam.ac.uk/~jmi/onc_poster (temporary, will be replaced in near future - we will inform you when that happens). Institution(s): Institute of Astrononomy, University of Cambridge Leader(s): Suzanne Aigrain, Simon Hodgkin, Jonathan Irwin, Mike Irwin Contact: Suzanne Aigrain Isaac Newton Telescope + Wide Field Camera Aperture: 2.54 m Focal Ratio: f/3.29 Focal Length: 837 mm Field of view: 0.54 x 0.54 deg Number of CCDs: 4 CCD type: EEV (thinned, AR coated) pixel format: 2048 x 4096 pixel size: 0.33 arcsec Site: La Palma, Canary Islands Dates: 2004 Nov, 2005 Jan Field(s): Orion Nebula Cluster (+ M34 & M67 when ONC not observable) Clear nights: ~12 (6 + 6) Candidates: data under analysis Status and Plans: Data from the Nov. 2004 run have been processed and light curves produced. Light curves from the Jan. 2005 run should be availalble within the next month. A number of variable stars have been identified in the Nov. 2004 data, transit searching will star as soon as both runs are fully processed. These observations are part of a larger, long term program, tentatively called Monitor, which aims to ... monitor young open clusters aged between 1 and 100 Myr for planetary transits and substellar eclipsing binaires. The collaboration involves, in addition to the IoA, co-Is from JHU (Baltimore), ESA/ESTEC, Palermo, LAOG (Grenoble), AIP (Postdam), UNSW (Sydney). The plan is to monitor ten or so open clusters of various ages from different telescopes. In 2005A, we have been allocated 50 hours on the ESO 2.2m + WFI to monitor Blanco 1, 40 hours on CFHT + MegaPrime to monitor IC4665, and 6 nights on CTIO + Mosaic to monitor NGC 2362 and M50. We plan to apply for additional time in 2005B, to return to the ONC and monitor additonal clusters.
