Numerical Simulations of Clustered Star Formation

Ian Bonnell

We have been investigating the dynamics of clustered star formation and the origin of the initial mass function of stars. Included here are the results of a simulation following the collapse and fragmentation of a 1000 solar mass cloud in a radius of 0.5 parsecs. the simulation produces 419 stars in approximately half a million years. The stellar masses are in the range of 0.1 to 30 solar masses and follow a standard stellar initial mass function.
