School of Physics and Astronomy, University of St Andrews August 23rd-29th 2009
The Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), runs an annual one-week summer course for new graduate students starting their PhDs in the coming October. We are pleased to welcome the new cohort of astronomy PhD students to the University of St Andrews in 2009, the International Year of Astronomy.
***
The course will comprise introductory lectures by leading internationally-recognised researchers in all the key areas of astronomical research identified by STFC. There will be ample time to meet both current local graduate students and fellow graduate students from throughout the UK who will be starting their PhD work at the same time. We are planning a varied programme of social events in and around the picturesque mediaeval town of St Andrews. All lectures will be held in the state-of-the-art Gateway building.
Accommodation, meals and formal social events will be free for STFC-supported students. Individual travel costs should be claimed directly from STFC. Postgraduate students who are not supported by STFC, and who wish to attend the School, should contact the School Administrator at stfc2009@st-and.ac.uk for fees information.
